Are you choosing what you are entitled to, or what will actually help you live well after divorce?

This is a question I often ask clients. There can be a gap between the legal advice someone receives during divorce, and the financial choices that will truly serve them in life afterwards.

As I shared in my recent conversation with Heidi Schwegler on The Grass is Greener: “Our training as financial advisers is to focus on goals and needs, whereas for solicitors their focus is often on what their clients are entitled to. And there is a disconnect there sometimes, because depending on individual circumstances, the Super or the house might be worth more. Not in dollar terms, but in preference.”

In this episode, we explored:

  • The financial and emotional challenges that often arise during and after divorce
  • How to bridge the gap between legal entitlements and personal financial goals
  • How to make confident decisions that support your future life

If you are going through a divorce, or supporting someone who is, I hope you will find this conversation both practical and encouraging.
